Primary 5/6/7 visited the Nerve Centre on Magazine Street this afternoon. We were there to do a coding workshop, but it turned into so much more! We started with a little introduction to what we would be doing and then each child got a computer to work on by themselves. The Never Centre team guided everyone through the basics of game design using Microsoft MakeCode Arcade.
It was a fantastic experience for our children and they were all able to complete the tasks independently. Their listening and ICT skills were really on show! After creating their games, they were even able to play them on little handled computers.
A huge thanks goes out to Rachel from the Nerve Centre who reached out about the project and it was also great to meet Minister Gordon Lyons (Department for Communities), who said that our children’s skills on the computer were fantastic.
MakeCode Arcade is freely available for all our children to use, and they can log in using their C2K details from school. We will be doing more work on it in school and with the Nerve Centre in the future, so get practicing and making those games.
