Remembrance at the Fountain

10th Nov 2023

Over the last few days we have taken part in a few acts of Remembrance.

In our classes we created poppy artwork and used it to decorate our assembly hall.

Ryan McCready came to school and talked to us about his time in the Army. He shows us a Royal British Legion Standard, some of his medals and a bugle. He also talked a little about the cenotaph. We’re really grateful to him for taking time out of his busy schedule to come and visit us.

Today we had a Remembrance service where we invited our parents and visitors to school. We spent some time thinking about those from our Armed Forces that gave their lives for us and for those who still serve today. They keep us safe and protect us and we thank them for all they have done for us.

Finally, we saw the completion of our 99 Lives project with The North West Cultural Partnership at New Gate. We took part in their service to commemorate the 99 lives of those were lost from the Fountain during World War 1. We had worked with them to help create the project with the children in school and the local community coming together to create the final pieces. We heard music, a poem and words of remembrance before finally lighting a beacon to close our ceremony. A huge “thank you” to Mark who put it all together and made it possible.
