Shared Education in Action: Creativity, Collaboration, and 1940s Storytelling
Today, pupils from Long Tower Primary School and P5-6-7 pupils took part in an inspiring shared education experience at the New Gate Arts & Culture Centre, bringing history to life through creativity, technology, and teamwork.
Delivered in partnership with the North West Cultural Partnership and supported by Thermo Fisher, the workshop was expertly facilitated by The Nerve Centre, whose guidance helped pupils explore innovative ways of storytelling. The focus of the day was a unique and engaging challenge: recreating 1940s-style news reports using modern digital tools, including green screen technology.
From the outset, the atmosphere was energetic and collaborative. Pupils worked together in teams, taking on roles such as presenters, scriptwriters, directors, and technical crew. Through this hands-on approach, they not only learned about the historical context of 1940s news reporting but also developed valuable skills in communication, problem-solving, and digital media production.
The use of green screens allowed students to transport themselves back in time, placing their news reports against historically inspired backdrops. This fusion of past and present sparked imagination and encouraged creativity, resulting in performances that were both educational and entertaining.
A key highlight of the day was the strong sense of teamwork. Pupils supported one another, shared ideas, and built confidence as they brought their projects to life. The collaborative nature of shared education was clearly evident, fostering new friendships and strengthening connections between participants.
As the day drew to a close, excitement continued to build for the upcoming premiere of the pupils’ short films. These productions promise to showcase not only their hard work and creativity but also the power of shared learning experiences.
This event stands as a testament to what can be achieved when education, culture, and innovation come together. The pupils leave with new skills, lasting memories, and a sense of pride in what they have accomplished—ready to see their stories shine on the big screen.
