P5/6/7 enjoyed attending the 'Big Bridge Workshop' facilitated by FP McCann where they got to build a real, physical bridge. The session started with a short briefing as pupils learned about how the new Pennyburn bridge was built. Next we split into two teams to build the deck of the bridge, working from either end to place the deck and set the pins to meet in the middle using the polystyrene as scaffolding. Then we attached all the cables. The final step was to put our faith in our building ability, as we tested the bridge by walking across it. Thankfully the bridge was secure and didn't collapse! Everyone showed great teamwork and listening skills and enjoyed this hands on, practical experience.
