Update from Mr Torney

18th Jun 2025

It is with a very heavy heart I must inform parents that both Mrs Mullan and Miss Colhoun will be leaving us at the end of June.

We spoke with the children today in Assembly to let them know, and while they are obviously upset, they are also happy for both members of staff as they go on a new journey.

Mrs Mullan and Miss Colhoun have secured jobs as leaders of Specialist Units in other schools, and we know they will go on to do amazing work in their new positions. They are familiar faces to all the children and parents, and I am sure you agree that they will be massively missed. They have been fantastic members of staff and brought so much to our school during their time with us, both going above and beyond to make the children of Fountain Primary School feel cared for and safe.

Mrs Mullan has been working in the school since 2016 and started with Primary 4/5 before more recently moving to Primary 3/4. As well as this, she has led our Eco Council and was the driving force behind us achieving our Eco Schools Award.

Miss Colhoun has most recently been working alongside Mr Torney in Primary 5/6/7 but has also worked in Primary 1 and Primary 1/2 during her time with us in Fountain PS.

We wish them all the best as they leave the school, but they will always be part of the Fountain Family.

Miss Colhoun has asked me to pass on the message…

“Although I’m excited for the new challenge ahead, I will really miss everyone, and I have lots of happy memories. I taught my very first class when I joined here, and the Fountain Family have no doubt helped shape me as a teacher. Thank you for all your kindness and support.”

Mrs Mullan has said…

“I have had the most wonderful time in Fountain Primary School and will be very sad to leave. It has been a very difficult decision with lots of mixed emotions, but one that I know will benefit my family. I have made some great friendships and met the most amazing children! I have been very lucky to have spent most of my teaching career in this school, and I am going to be leaving with very fond memories that I will treasure forever. Finally, I just want to say a huge thank you from the bottom of my heart to the children, staff, parents and everyone else that has made my time here so enjoyable and rewarding!”

The Board of Governors are currently working to fill both positions, and we will update parents with more information when we are able to do so.
