World Book Day 2024

7th Mar 2024

Today was World Book Day and we had so much fun celebrating!

Primary 1-7 all got a chance to visit Waterstones in Foyleside where they listened to a story being told and then were able to use their World Book Day token to get a free book. As always, a huge thanks to Paula and all her team who welcomed us so warmly too their store.

As well as that, children from Primary 7 went to Nursery and P1/2 to read them a story. It was a great opportunity and Ghada said that she enjoyed the experience and thought that it was fun and helped her be more confident. Aimee thought reading to P1/2 was quite good and enjoyed reading more than 1 story, she also said they were great listeners.

Around the school there were lots of activities involving World Book Day. Dressing up, creating bookmarks, remaking book covers are just a few, scavenger hunts and lots of work on creating characters to name just a few.

The children were tasked with creating a mask of a famous character at home and we were so impressed with all the masks. We went to assembly after lunch and shared our creations with each other. An impressive 53 children created a mask and Mrs Graydon presented each one with a hand-written certificate.

We hope you enjoy World Book Day at home as much as we did in school and please take the time to read a story with your child/children. Reading with your child will strengthen the bond you have with them and help them become more confident readers.
