Fountain Primary School, Londonderry

World Book Day

5th Mar 2026

There was so much going on around the school today to celebrate World Book Day.

First of all, well done to everyone who went home with a certificate today for dressing up. As you can see, there were some amazing costumes, we obviously have very creative children and parents!

There were crafts being done in every classroom today as well as time for plenty of stories too! Primary 1 and 2 even took a walk down to Waterstones for a chance to be read a story and pick up some books.

Primary 5, 6 and 7 did some hot seating and put some of our most well-known characters from traditional stories on trial! The Wolf from Little Red Riding Hood was found guilty, even though he put up a great defence for his actions.

After lunch, we went to assembly, and everyone had a chance to show off their costumes to the rest of the school.

All in all, it was a great day and a fantastic chance to think about the impact that reading has on our lives. It is such an essential skill and one that can help us in our everyday lives as well as transport us to a different world!
